No, you're exactly right.

You need depth on D heading down the stretch and into the playoffs. And Wideman provides that.

He may have been a lousy #4 at this point in his career, but he is actually a pretty terrific #7 or #8. He is a veteran with lots of playoff experience.

Not many teams have much better sitting in the pressbox than that, as backup for injuries.
