Funny how Gretzky never really seemed to associate with the Oilers at all (outside of Heritage Classic games and his own jersey retirement) over all these years since he retired. I lived there for almost a decade recently and I don't ever recall seeing him doing stuff like this. Then they land McDavid, now all of a sudden he's Edmonton's greatest son again, taking part in all these Oiler-related functions. Think he's like every Oilers fan when they won the McDavid lottery in just assuming a new dynasty will be born, and he wants in on the party.
It reminds me of some deadbeat dad who ditches his kid and baby mama his whole life. Then kid grows up to be an athletic stud and turns pro, then suddenly daddy wants to be a part of his life. How convenient..
