Development around Canmore should be focused on being a world class sports / recreation facility for non mechanized pursuits. So while I might disagree with it on an animal impact standpoint putting in a lift for downhill biking / moguls / snowboard park facility in Canmore would serve the interest of what Canmore should be developed around. And I might concede a Gondola might fit in with that type of development. Still would likely be against it but the Casino/conference centre does not fit.

One thing about a conference centre is that he demand would be weighted toward weekdays. That would even things out, making more efficient use of the tourist infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, knick knack stores) already there. Of course, you'd need to size it appropriately to fill existing capacity, and it seems like this might be too big for that.
I do agree there is no place for a casino there, and I actually thought there was a moratorium on new casinos in the province at all.
