I would protect Ferland for the following reasons:
1) I would not want to play him throughout the year. He's legitimately dangerous and a guy like Brodie would probably be victimized quickly.
2) He has hands enough but lacks the consistency right now to make him a low cost high reward player.
3) 3 zone playoff performer.
Going forward as the Flames look to legitimately compete/contend high-value contracts are going to be the name of the game. If you can get Lazar and Ferland signed for a combined 2.5 million or so that could be huge for the organization.
