Some big names up there...out of them the only guy who may make it out as solid is Fucale, and he's a goalie and still far from the NHL.
Monahan has over double the points than all 2nd rounders of 2013 combined...
In fact the whole 2nd round of 2013 has scored a grand total of 70 points so far.
You know who's ahead of all the 2nd rounders of 2013? Lazar
And 2013 was considered a strong draft, 2017 could be the worst in 20 years. Chances of a solid player coming out of the 2nd round this year are fairly slim, let alone Calgary drafting him. And the Flames likely being in a playoffs spot this year, it would be a mid-late 2nd rounder too.
What's this obsession with draft picks? We have guys like Poirier and Klimchuk who were first rounders and may never turn out, but want to play the lotto again for a guy that may pan out in 4-5 years? Our rebuild is mostly over now, draft picks are no longer as desirable as they were in prior years. Lazar is closer to being an effective player, even as a longshot than any 2017 2nd rounder.

Lot of those aren't being rushed into the NHL by a stupid management team when they're clearly not ready. By your logic, Jankowski is a total bust as he's only played 1 game and is older than Lazar. How would you feel if we sent him to Ottawa?
Lazar is already in bust territory. If he wasn't a Flame and I asked you if a prospect in his 3rd season had 1 point in 33 games was going to be a bust, I bet you'd say yes. Its unfortunate that Ottawa didn't have the patience to develop him right. Maybe the Flames can turn it around.
I'm far from a draft pick hoarder. Read my post history, I've been advocating for the Flames to trade picks for help all season. I just don't think Lazar is worth it. He is not an upgrade on anyone on the roster and he's regressing.
It's a steep price for a big gamble. Plain and simple.
