One thing strikes me about this team now - they have a wide repertoire.

Flames can play a really nice, offensive game with flair.
Flames can play stingy, smothering, mind-numbing defensive hockey now.
Flames can play a very tough, physical game in all areas of the ice.

This makes them more difficult to match-up against. I no longer dread the St. Louis game, or the Anaheim games, or the LA Kings games. At the same time, I don't dread the quick attacking teams either.

Elliott has dramatically increased his game. Where are the bad goals? He has been very consistent, and playing well behind a consistent defensive team. That is playoff series winning type of performances. Not 'stealing' games - just stingy, difficult to score against playoff type of defensive hockey.

This actually makes Treliving's job much harder. You make a trade - even if nobody is traded off the roster in exchange - but someone has to lose their spot. I haven't been a big fan of Brouwer this season (and I thought I would be a huge fan, though I do think he has had solid games but remained overlooked by many) but he has been fine for the most part lately. There really isn't a weak-link in the lineup. Versteeg may not be doing that well any longer, but he is adding skill and puck-moving ability. I guess you can upgrade, but boy is it difficult to mess with something that is working so nicely.

Longest win streak in the league, and tied for 2nd (with Washington and Minnesota) for best record in the last 10. Flames are heating up at the most critical time. You want your team going into the playoffs hot and confident - hopefully they continue this right up to the playoffs.

Oh, and LoL at the Edmonton fans. Seriously, the rebuilt for like 10 years, and were completely embarrassingly lousy in that entire span. They watched Calgary rebuild and then enter the playoffs and actually win a round in their 2nd year. They get gifted a generational talent and ride the crap out of a good goalie, and they actually have the gall to look down and snicker at the Flames when all they have done is accumulate more loser points than us? In a season where the Flames are riding a new coach and TWO new goalies?

That franchise is a laughing stock of the NHL. Just get a room and pat yourselves on the back for those glory years and STFU.
