Most years I'll try and see all the Best Picture noms, this year I managed three of them. Arrival in theatres, Manchester by the Sea last month and Hacksaw Ridge over the weekend. Most of the nominations didn't scream "Must Watch!" to be honest.
Hawksaw Ridge was a great story but the movie was pretty meh IMO. Vince Vaughn was pretty terrible and took me right out of the story each time he held up his gun and showed his Vincey face. Skipped the Oscar broadcast last night with plans to skip through to the awards only, thought it would be a quick half hour watch early this AM. The gaff was everywhere though so impossible not to spoil.
I'll see them eventually though, or try. Hell or High Water looks good, Hidden Figures seems interesting, Moonlight will get the Oscar win watch. Fences, La La Land, Lion just kind of bleed into the background.
I'll spare the "bad year for movies" line however. Great movies from the previous year always filter out into the public eventually. In the movie thread here CPF noted "The Founder" was the best picture he'd seen in from 2017, but it's a 2016 movie.
