I think you just have to look at the Hamilton trade to see how tight Treliving keeps his info.
Rumours were floating around all morning about the teams who were talking to the Bruins and what they were offering, and there was no mention of the Flames. Then, about 5 minutes before the trade call started, McKenzie and Friedman both tweet out that they hear Calgary is making a late push. That was quickly followed by confirmation that the deal was done.
According to what Conroy and Treliving said after the fact, the deal was done the night before and the media was speculating all morning about nothing.
