I would imagine that Iginla is on the radar. According to Friedman, Treliving is looking for a player with skill and grit. He may not be the 1st or 2nd choice to fit that spot, but I would imagine the Flames have probably been looking at him in addition to whomever else fits the criteria. Maybe they did and crossed him off the list, or maybe they are following-up with guys they have higher on that list.

It is hard to deny that the Flames have a hole in the lineup that Iginla MAY be able to fit better than what they currently have. Either way, it is a hole on the RW, it is a hole in a RHS with PP ability, it is a hole in the general lineup of grittiness (though Iginla isn't more physical than Brouwer or Chiasson, he will stand up for his teammates effectively) and teams are always wanting to add some experience and leadership on a team. It is difficult to deny that Iginla fits at least some of those holes, but it is certainly possible that the Flames are able to acquire someone who fits those holes even better.

One thing I thought of today was how Iginla was known for putting his team on his back and carry them kicking and screaming beyond what they should have been. Iginla on the team today would be the one being carried by the team. Not as lousy as it sounds, as there is a decent rallying cry around getting someone like him a cup. I personally do not think it would be a negative distraction.

One also has to remember that Iginla is an underrated playmaker. That helps too, especially when considering that Chiasson and Brouwer aren't very good at playmaking. If the price is a mid-pick (4th or lower), and there isn't a better fit available that makes sense long-term for the Flames, then I would be comfortable with Iginla returning.
