Only way it makes sense is if a couple prime draft picks come back to offset the remaining years or if the Flames ship expensive 4th liners like Stajan or Bouma out as well. Even then Stajan won't be going anywhere before a playoff push.
As an aside.. as Derrick Pouliot totally busted in Pittsburg? 23 years old, waiver eligible next season, maybe the Penguins are done, former 8th overall pick. Calgary has plenty of D prospects to give icetime to in the minors but wouldn't mind him cheap as a reclamation prospect. Thought I haven't been following his development at all.

Fleury worries me so I agree 100%
But if they believe he's the stopgap for their prospects then it's a good move, as they could do the goalie move, get rid of the Wideman contract and still have room to add a forward.
