In the grand scheme of things, the Flames haven't sucked hard enough or long enough to guarantee some years of contention after this rebuild. A quality top 6 forward is still required, alongside a good #4 and a starting goalie. Bennett is 20 years old and Tkachuk is 19 and they are both going to be successful at the NHL level.

Even though Bennett is not having a stellar season, he's 20 years old.

How long did it take for Backlund to have the type of season he's having this year? Patience is necessary with player development, especially at the NHL level when they are not spending any time developing in the AHL.
