This may get a little touchy-feely - but I wouldn't look too much at Iginla's stats this year when gauging his worth. He had 22G, 25A - 47P last year. The entire Avalanche team has been an absolute tire fire, and that must be completely demoralizing for a guy like Iginla to play in. The Avalanche are on track to get ~49 points - how do you have any desire to play the game in what may be your last year?

We know that his desire to win is great - he has unparalleled will and passion to play the game competitively. I wouldn't discount the impact that would have on some of the players on the team, driving towards a higher compete level. Also if we know anything about Iginla - he's a finisher. We saw a classic Iginla goal against the Avalanche this year too. His current linemates are Grigorenko and Mitchell - seriously? The team is lacking from a severe lack of finish (think: Chiasson, Brouwer). It's also suffering from an unusually low shooting percentage. We need goal scoring.

I think it is obvious that we aren't going to get vintage Iginla - but he still may fill a real need and potentially bring many intangibles. Even on the Avalanche, his teammates are still rooting for him because they know how serious his drive is.

Plus the story and nostalgia is too strong. Hey - if we're not going to win the Stanley Cup this year (which seems like the consensus around here), what's the harm?

Regardless of if Iginla comes here or not - I'd like to see him have success somewhere. It seems like a pity to see his career end on such a down note.
