That 1 in 5 number is also disputed too because I believe it only refers to women who have had an outbreak and not everyone who carries HSV-2 has an outbreak and the majority of carriers don't know that they're carriers. It's actually kind of interesting because one of the reasons there's been very little appetite to develop a vaccine for herpes is because it's not seen as a major health concern, so it'd be kind of ironic if they ended up developing a vaccine for herpes now because it could prevent autism.
