I managed to get it down last night. Thanks for the advice.
I got home a bit earlier last night than usual and managed to get a better look at where the drone was before the sun went down. Luckily, it was only a foot or two away from the edge of the roof towards the neighbours' house.
Starting with my golf ball retriever, I taped a broomstick to the end of that and then another broom stick to the end of that. Then I took a coat hanger and fashioned a make-shift grappling hook to attach to the other end of the golf ball retriever. I went into the backyard with my ladder and climbed on top of the fence and the little shed between our property. Then, with the device fully extended, I started fumbling around on the top of the roof until the hook found purchase and managed to drag the drone off the roof. If the drone were any closer to the peak of the roof or towards the centre of the house, I'm not sure what I would have done.
The neighbour pulled out of his garage and stopped to watch for a while, which was fun. Never asked any questions. Just watched for a few minutes, shrugged, and drove away.
The best part is the drone still works. So the kids were pretty stoked.
