If you want to go North Portstewart which is hosting the Irish Open this year and Royal Portrush are as tough as you'll find with spectacular scenary (the former looking over to Donegal and the latter to the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland.).

You've also got spectacular scenery and cliff drives there with the Giants Causeway, Bushmills distillery, Glens of Antrim etc ....

Personally I prefer the Dingle Peninsula over the ring of Kerry which is a worn down tourist trap. But each to their own. Get off the beaten path.

Also, if you like hockey, or sport in general make an effort and get to one of the intercounty hurling games or/and Gaelic football games. In fact I would make that one of your things to do. Even talk to the locals and you'll find a good local game going on. Much higher quality of hurling in Cork than Kerry.
