I love Kouign-Amman. I've been seeing them pop up more frequently here in bakeries in Calgary.
I may however, have discovered the ultimate "doughnut" - a xuixo (shoe-shoe), from Girona, Spain. Viennoiserie dough (croissant/danish), filled with crema catalana (citrus-y creme brulee), deep fried and rolled in sugar. We left Girona three days ago and I'm going through withdrawal. I may be experimenting this weekend to try to recreate them back here in Calgary.
