The Flames are FAR too slow on their setups, particularly on the PP. Their play is always back to the blue line, play pitch and catch a bit and try for a pass down low with a quick flip to whoever is right in front of the net. The problem is that they signal the play each time, and the D-man (except Dougie) typically holds the puck waaaaaaaay too long, allowing the opposing team to line up where they want to.
It's a very static system and doesn't allow the dynamic players room to move or manoeuvre. As a result, they're kept to the outside and forced to make passes that are bound to hit sticks, or shots that are bound to hit too many defenders.
They had a great system for a while, but other teams have adapted, and the Flames haven't.
Very frustrating to watch this game!
