However, the expansion draft really ties their hands. You can't make a huge splash and risk exposing a player you want in your plans. You either go after guys that can be had for cheap that you wouldn't mind potentially losing, go for young players that wouldn't qualify for exposure, or you trade an asset you were going to protect for another team's asset.
Or the option of giving up young assets for a player who is better than the guys you are currently protecting. There are teams with deeper talent better than flames who risk losing them for nothing. Target these teams. If it leaves Brouwer exposed who cares.
