People are trying to figure out why gaudreau has not put up as much points this year. Could also be part of the wideman effect. Before the wideman incident, the flames were one of the least penalized teams in the league pretty much since gaudreau started with the team. Since that incodent, the flames are the most penalized team in the league.
That means night after night of gaudreau having to sit for extended periods of time while penalties are killed. Hard for offensive skills to get into sync when that happens.
Coincidentally, both frolik and backlund have flourished offensively since then. They play more minutes due to wing the primary penalty killers. Keeps them fresh in the game.
It is ridiculous how the league and refs have responded since the wideman incident. It's embarrassing to the league.
