He is cheap so why not prepare him to take over a top 6 spot next year rather than Jokipakka who will most likely not be back next year.

He's similar, but Jokipakka is more consistent, largely due to his age and experience level.
Kulak has a shot at a regular spot in the NHL, but he needs to work on his consistency. What young defenseman doesn't?
