Default Wes Gilbertson Article - Flames centre Sean Monahan nears milestone with 'muffin'

http://www.calgarysun.com/2017/02/13...th-muffin-shot

I know this is a Sun article, but I lol'ed at this one pretty good. I've always noticed his shot was goofy, but for whatever reason, he scores. It very much is like a lacrosse shot, where his hands are super tight together.

“Yeah, I get that all the time,” nodded Flames centre Sean Monahan, tops on his squad with 19 tallies so far this season. “Some guys say they don’t know how I score goals. Sometimes they say my shot is a muffin.

“He’s got a deceiving shot, but it’s an ugly looking shot. We always bug him about it,” grinned right-winger Troy Brouwer after Sunday’s late-afternoon practice at the Corral, the Flames’ first skate after their five-day bye in the schedule.

“His stick is this tall,” Brouwer explained, his paw just north of his hip to make his point. “And his hands are always together.”

Almost on cue, a couple members of the National Lacrosse League’s Toronto Rock — fresh off an 11-7 victory over the Calgary Roughnecks in a matinee at the Saddledome — mosey by en route to their team bus.

“He looks like a lacrosse player almost,” Brouwer said. “But obviously it works. He’s scoring every other game right now.”
