The 2015-16 Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins might disagree with you there. I would say he would be roughly the 4th best defencemen on that team last year. Maybe the 5th. Pittsburgh used some inexperienced guys last year on D who made a tonne of mistakes.
Engelland was also probably the 5th best defencemen in San Jose last season as well.
Engelland is a dependable defensive defencemen who plays physically, and (IMO) quite the underrated first pass out of the zone. I would be comfortable having him on the 2nd pairing, if the 3rd wouldn't end up being a fire drill.
