yaah he was offered the post, but he turned it down. I think it's the right decision tbh because you already have two alpha males with Rummenigge and Hoeneß, plus behind the scenes there's Michael Reschke, who's the mastermind behind their transfer strategy. Lahm would have been nothing but a yes-man with minuscule influence besides Rummenigge and Hoeneß ... remember Nerlinger? Same story. Also, there were already a lot of "what does he actually do?" rumblings when Sammer had the job ... with Lahm, that would have probably happened earlier and more intense because Lahm is just not a vocal guy.
Maybe if Hoeneß had not returned, things would have been different, but under those circumstances I think it's smart to not take that job. Lahm has been in bed with BILD for a very long time, I have no doubt that he gets to write a column there and earn nice money without all the hassle.
