Cost of living is important for the middle class, but completely irrelevant if you're making $3M US a year. I would think that there are more than a few Canadians living in the US right now who wouldn't mind moving their families back to Canada if they can make the same money here.
It's not like Boston, or most NHL cities for that matter, are some tropical paradise. They still get winter in most of them. The most likely reason that Julien won't be coming here is that there isn't likely to be a head coaching job opening here for at least another year.
