Goaltenders are largely dependent on the systems and players in front of them to succeed, far more than players at any other position. So yes, while there are teams looking for goaltending every year, unless a guy like Carey Price or Corey Schneider is available then acquiring a goalie is not going to make up for icing a garbage team and/or having flaccid coaching.
I'm not convinced, for example, that the Flames would have made the playoffs last year, even notwithstanding the Hiller/Ramo/Ortio rotating clown show. Bob's systems simply didn't work and generated too many golden opportunities for the opposition. That's pretty much the story for every team looking for a shakeup in net - better to address other issues first that are making the goaltending look bad. Elliott and Johnson have been far from spectacular overall but there are bigger fish to fry at the moment (RW/D).
