Not even close, a FA M-16 will run about $30k USD right now. You can sometimes find AR-15s for $10-$15k, sub guns like the HK-53 are usually in the same price range. The stuff you are getting for under $1000 is the Walmart grade, mass produced semi-auto variety. Even SA mil-spec goes for more in the US.
The model used yesterday doesn't matter NOW. But in a few days/weeks when the anti-firearms lobby gets going, it will matter a great deal. There are certain people within that group who have no qualms about omitting facts, twisting facts and outright lying to advance their agenda. When the discussion happens, it should be with actual facts and with no lying.
