This is my analysis of Treliving:

The very good:

The trade for Dougie Hamilton was an absolute steal. He is an elite young D-man who is only getting better. We are very lucky to have him on the Flames.

The good:

Drafting of Tkachuk would be in the very good heading if it wasn't such an obvious pick, but still he made the selection and the kid looks like the real deal.

Signing Frolik was a good addition. My only gripe is he is overpaid, I guess that comes with him being a free agent, and he is an analytics darling, just IMO.

Picking up Kris Versteeg was also a good move this season as well.

The I don't know yet:

Brian Elliot and Chad Johnson

Goaltenders numbers are a lot of the time reflective of the system that they play in front of. There's a reason Darryl Sutter's goalies usually lead the league in GAA. The defensive scheme in front of our goalies is a mystery but they have also let in some back breaking mouldy stinkers far too often. I would give Treliving a pass here because these moves looked good at the time but Brad basically sewered himself when he hired GG.

The kind of bad:

Trading Granlund and Baertschi to division rival Canucks for Shinkaruk and a 2nd rounder. The Baertschi trade is starting to look like a stinker. I know I know he demanded a trade and he was looking pretty unmotivated but there isn't a lot to like about seeing a former top pick, on a division rival, second on his team in goals, and you don't even have a roster player in return. Granlund has 12 goals on the Nucks. Shinkaruk is not looking very good in the AHL. That's 2 NHL roster players at a combined 25 goals for no NHL roster players in return and 1 NHL assist this season. The Flames can ill afford to make bad trades after getting nothing from the Feaster trades. I guess it's still a wait and see with these two but as of now the Nucks are winning those trades handily.

The bad:

Trading for Bollig didn't work out. All we did is supply the Blackhawks with cap relief and now Bollig is in the AHL. Bad move.

Troy Brouwer. 3rd highest paid forward on the team, 3 more years on contract. He currently has 17 points in 44 games and is almost unnoticeable out there far too often. This has buyout written all over it.

We still don't have a top 6 winger.

It took him far too long to address the mess in goal last season and still our goaltending issues are not answered.

I will give Treliving a pass on the Wideman situation because there are 29 other NHL teams who know that he is not good and has a huge cap hit, not an easy sell.

Just the amount of dead weight on this team. There are guys on the Flames who I will be very surprised if they are still in the NHL a season from now. Bouma, Chiasson and Ferland are the big ones in my opinion. There is simply not enough talent on this roster.

The very bad:

Glen Gulutzan. The fact that Treliving hired this guy makes me seriously question his ability to assess talent. The fact that our top players have all collectively regressed is concerning and GG is to blame for this. He is not a good coach and this was Brad's hand picked guy when there are definitely better options available. Not good.
