In 2 years, using the odds of Monny who is arguably established and reaching what all thought he could be, and the high likely hood of Bennett reaching his ceiling in even 2-3 years. This combined with Backlund currently at his peak and regression soon around the corner will in a best case scenario have us with a 3rd line center making 4-5 million a season. I'm not arguing that Backlund isn't good/great right now. I'm saying he won't be better than today in 3 years and his salary will have doubled. I just don't see it fitting in this cap world. If Backlund regresses in 3 years and makes 5 mil and is a true 3rd line center, does anyone see that as a trade-able asset? I don't think this year is the time to trade him, maybe not even next year depending on what he will command. If it's inevitable that Management feels he will be too expensive, you pull the trigger now though before his value diminishes. We aren't a playoff team yet, you find pieces that will better align when you see your window opening.
everyone over 30 = garbage untradeable liability?
