I was in my last year of University and had begun sending out resumes. I made a profile on Monster.ca (is that site still around/relevant?) I had sent out so many resumes and someone called me with "an opportunity of a lifetime." Truth be told, I didn't remember applying for the position but I went anyway.

The office was located in an industrial area. Stains on the carpet and ripped furniture should have been an obvious red flag but I was young and naive. Buddy sits me down for my "interview" and pulls out this dusty binder. In the binder was the sales commissions I could make being a door to door insurance salesman. Somehow they hired me in that interview and asked me to job shadow a salesman the next morning. I'm not sure if I said one word during the interview.

The next morning I drove around with the greasiest insurance salesman you could imagine. He decided he wanted to cold call farms that day. So off we went to random farms trying to sell insurance. Surprisingly no shotguns were pulled on us. He'd curse and rage out in the car if he didn't close any sales, but then put on a smile once we got to the next farm.

After spending an entire day doing this, they expected me to come in the next day and go solo. Needless to say I didn't show up. They never did call me to see where I was either!
