All they try to do is run some drills that the goalies want, sit with them during the footage, and try their best to mentally support a goalie. They also act as a buffer from the coaches to the goaltender as all goalies react differently to criticism, while coaches generally take the tough route.
He mentioned that since the goalies have their own routines and a significant portion of their game is mental, it's really on them to improve.
All in all, not sure if getting rid of the goaltending coach would help the situation all that much.

Maybe the amount of involvement and role of goalie coaches has changed over the years. Brent Krahn played 1 NHL game 9 years ago, hard to tell if what he said has much truth to it or not.
