I have listened to many Brian Burke one on one interviews and speeches and have always been very impressed by him. He is a pillar of strength needed in this organization and I think for the long term he is a very important piece of the puzzle.
Brad Treliving is incredibly hard working by all accounts and you know what, he has strengthened the foundation of this organization and has increased its credibility. I doubt there are General Managers out there who are trending up so early in their careers as him. That's cool if you can counter argue that, I'd like to hear about others to broaden my own horizons.
Glen Gulutzen reminds me of the opposite of Mike Keenan, no leadership abilities and natural aura of strength......but boy would he be able to impress you with his knowledge in the boardroom or perhaps on a hiking trip. Where as people are not wowed by Mike Keenan as a tactician but boy do you ever listen to him when he talks. It is paramount as a coach to be able to really be heard. I do not think this comes naturally to Glen Gulutzen, I bet he would be a great powerplay coach, head scout or even great in a management role. As a coach he does not have the gravitas to really be heard, a gravitas that both Darryl Sutter and Bob Hartley personify.
Does this sound crazy? Perhaps.
Is this a rant thread? Definitely
Have I ranted? No not yet. Or maybe I have, its all about perspective you know.
I shall rant though if they get rid of Burke or Treveling.
