Let's be realistic here. Life expectancy for an oil pipe is around 30-35 years, natural gas up to 50, both under ideal circumstances. You can't get that lifespan out of water pipe. The viability also depends on the reserve and the market demand.

But that is here nor there, the world is moving away from a carbon economy to an electric economy. Other industrialized nations are miles ahead and the developing nations are pushing in that direction as well. Extracting energy from the hydrocarbon molecule is and will soon be pushed to a support technology rather than a driver. Those in the O&G industry remind me of those in the coal industry, who ignored the warning signs only to see their industry pretty much wiped out overnight. It's happening, get used to it. Diversify your economy into technologies which support the future and extend the viability of your dirty natural resource. The future is elsewhere. The pipeline is a symbol of this administration refusing to see the future and be a leader in that regard.
