I am of the opinion we may be looking at a this a little too in depth until we know a little more. A lot of this is just being reported on and we may get some additional info and when the dust settles, it may make a little more sense. There are a variety of reasons for this stuff to come out. Here are some potential thoughts on my end with no real basis for anything other than opinion.
1) Brian Burke doesn't have a contract with the Flames from various articles and interviews I have read. It's more of an agreement in principle. With the potential rumors of him going to USA Hockey, that could leave a management void. We do know that Burke spends upwards of 10 days a month in Toronto for his young daughters and has other children in the Boston area. When Burke was hired, his daughter lived in Calgary. We the recent news of his father passing and the funeral services being in Florida, we can assume some additional family perhaps on the east coast. Lots of travel here and if he can get the USA Hockey gig, the travel would be easier and the taxes would be lower earning income in the US as a US resident. Let's not forget that Burke actually left his Duck's role as a GM to take the Toronto job in the fall of 2008, he wasn't fired. I can't recall but I doubt a manager has pulled that move ever since.
2) I do believe that Treleving's body of work has been good enough to earn additional time but if that isn't the case and ownership feels a change is warranted, don't we have a strong core of Assistant Managers such as Conroy and Pascal? The former GM of the Yotes as well.
Like I said, speculation but we will see what happens
