2 or 4 points ahead of their 15-16 pace or not, this team looks worse in a lot of ways because the heart and work ethic is missing every odd night.
It doesn't help that mony and Johnny got paid handsomely and no longer had to prove themselves to be worth big contracts. I think I'm disappointed in those two more than anyone on or around the team. I became a huge Gaudreau fan based on the fact that he overcame so much adversity and showed so much perseverance and will to win. He put teams on his back all the way to the NHL and I loved that it seemed he wanted to win more than anything. Since the big contract I'm not seeing the same person out there. He's frustrated sure, he wants to go out and dangle around teams but he doesn't seem to care about the outcome at the end of the night. Aside from slashes on him, he seems really ho hum at the end of the day and it goes against everything that made me a fan of him in the first place.
And Giordano saying that they weren't that bad tonight and just got some bad breaks.. that's hogwash, Mark. Show some intellectual honesty, you're the captain and if you sugar coat bad performances like this, and it was bad, then the players will start to have it ingrained in them that efforts like this are acceptable.
They aren't and it isn't.
