After tonight's debacle I hope no one has any grand delusions of playoffs anymore. This team is about as tough as wet toilet paper. It doesn't help when the goalie can't make a save to bail out the team once in awhile but after one goal the whole roster looks deflated and just gives up. Where's the drive, the passion, the team dynamic? They look exactly like their head coach: no emotion, disinterested and outclassed in every aspect. If Gulutzan isn't canned after the season, Treliving should go with him. What a monumental screwup this hire was. Monahan, Gaudreau, Giordano and Brodie have all taken huge steps back under this coach. If it wasn't for Johnson's incredible run, we'd be pushing for 1st overall. Just pitiful. Also, don't bring up the guys in the minors who are playing well and expose them to this disease. Let them grow and enjoy their success down there.
Treliving has a huge job to do this offseason (if he sticks around):
Fire Gulutzan and find an NHL quality coach, who brings in his own assistants. ALL of them.
Acquire a legit winger for the top line, NOT a Chaisson quality player. If this means trading Bennett, so be it.
Acquire a middle pairing defenceman.
Acquire a goaltender who doesn't let in a muffin at least once per game.
This is the about least amount of fun I've had watching this team in years and throw Edmonton's success so far makes me want to puke. At least we know we are definite sellers at the trade deadline. Versteeg, Ferland, Bouma, Wideman (fat chance), Engelland, hell maybe even Brouwer should be put on the trade block to see what kind of returns are out there. This team needs a soft reset and it starts with the head coach.
