So it should be an outrage they are a bubble team why, exactly?

The part that sucks:
Suffering with crap teams over the years, the one solace was they were better than Edmonton.
That is no longer the case. The Oilers are better, this year.
So yell, scream, wail and blubber like 4 year old - fine. But advocate turning the organization into a clown show by firing the new coach 50 games in?
Nah
Someone asked earlier and yes the Flames have fired a head coach less than a full season into his tenure and Don Hay was fired after 68 games in 2001. It was a bad hire in the first place and it was the right thing to do even if it meant Greg Gilbert's ill fated term followed. Bottom line is that these firings eventually led to Darryl Sutter and that was the turning point for the organization. Had the Flames been even mediocre under Gilbert it's possible that 2004 never happens which is why I'm a proponent of firing head coaches if it's just not working out. Probably similar circumstances this year but I don't think this GM will accept that the guy that dazzled him in interviews is as bad as he has appeared this season.

So fire the GM then? Treliving did say after last season that failing to make the playoffs was considered failure. It appears that management and ownership believes this group is skilled enough, fast enough, and good enough. You don't sign a 31 year old guy like Troy Brouwer to a 4 year, $16 million deal if you don't believe your team is a playoff team.

I don't believe they should fire the GM of course but I do believe that management thinks they have a good team here and were fully expecting to be a playoff team this season. Gulutzan is Treliving's hand picked guy and as bad as things have been we are stuck with him until next season where he either turns things around or will be fired mid-season or next offseason.
