Practice seems to be a big influence. GG went with Elliott against the Oil after seeing him have the best practice he's ever seen (he said he didn't think a single puck went in).
Coaches often go with history as well. I don't know each goalie's history against the Preds.
Anyway, Johnson was good outside of those two saveable shots. He pretty much shut the door. A goalie's reaction after a rough start shows a lot to me.
