Again, the issue of the persistent, blatant abuse far, far outweighs his protests about it, which at this point are massively over-blown by the few repeat complainers here.

I absolutely agree. The reffing as been extra hard on him for whatever reason. This isn't his first season and I don't remember him taking this amount of abuse over the last couple years without getting a call. Then living in Edmonton I turn on an Oilers game and see McDavid get calls going his way for barely a tap or hook. It's completely unfair and it should be discussed.
I just think it is out of Johnny's hands. He tried discussing calls with refs early in the season, it turned into constant complaining because it didn't get better. The problem is the refs are completely unaccountable from a fan's and probably the players perspective. The only thing he can control is his reaction to it and my point was just that he needs to find a way to deal with it because it isn't getting better and the refs don't seem to care.
Is the solution for the team to start getting vocal and take some fines to get the message out? Maybe. They can't even play protection for him as they just end up shorthanded for playing it strong. It's really a no win and the absolute joke of reffing is to blame. But for him to play his best he has to stop looking to the ref after every missed call and just ignore it because nothing else seems to be working.
