You know its funny, because I can selectively like parts of the prequel movies and pull out the key pieces of mythology and in a lot of ways it links together very well

Phantom Menace

What I liked - Palpatine and the way he manipulated everything including power over the senate. The Sith mythology including the rule of two which I thought was a very cool concept to fight a massive organization like the Rebels. Ewan was born to play Obi-Wan. Liam was great as his mentor. Natalie Portmans best performance in the series. Ray Park as Darth Maul. The light saber fight between Maul and Obi-Wan was unbelievably well done.

What I didn't like - Of course Jar Jar. The overly cute battledroids and horribly racists characters like the trade federation.

Ok, if I was writing it what would I do - First of all, the whole slavery aspect was not well done. If your going to make Anakin and his mother slaves then I would make it brutal and harsh and a prime motivator for Anakin's fall (I want power so I never become a slave again) I probably would have scrapped Jar Jar, he really wasn't needed even as an intro to the Gungans who participated in the battle later on. Anakin, I would have made him older and far less optimistic about his life and the galaxy. I would have made him more angry and less petulant. I would have changed the pod racing to make if far more dangerous and that Anakin really needs the force to win it

AOTC

What I liked - Frankly I liked the background machinations by Palpatine and Dooku and the creation of a clone army that at first was a saviour to the galaxy but later became its great oppressor. Ewan again was incredibly strong, Chris Lee was superb as Dooku. Best moment of all, Jar Jar pretty much delivers the galaxy to the Sith. Natalie mailed in her performance except for a few key scenes, Hayden really struggled, he looked like Anakin, he had some real Vader mannerisms nailed but he just couldn't show the emotional struggle.

What I didn't like - The romance between Anakin and Padme, mainly because as actors they had no chemistry whatsoever. Over CGI. Instead of having Yoda flipping around, show how powerful he is by having him never turn on his light saber and never lift a finger. Bad dialogue choices over all.

What I would change

I would have begin to lay the tracks where Anakin see's that the Jedi council isn't perfect. Maybe they decide to leave him and Obi-Wan and Padme on Geonosis because the Senate and Palpatine won't give the Jedi senate authorization. Show more of a father son relationship between Palpatine and Anakin. Maybe a few more honest Iago moments as the devil begins his seduction. I liked the clone concept and loved the two Sith Lords fighting on the opposite sides. But I think that in the end they should have shown that the CIS was closer to victory. I liked the concept of Jango Fett being murdered to give more motivation to Bobba, but I'm not sure if it was needed. We could have instead gone with a early 20's Bobba Fett as the template, because even in ROTJ he was never killing out of revenge, he was a professional. You still have to have the love story, but I think that I would find a way to simplify it and focus on Anakin's fall being out of a feeling of betrayal by the Jedi.

ROTS -

What I liked. I liked this movie a lot. I liked the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan. I loved the opening battle. I loved Palpatine in this movie as well. Ewan was strong. Palpatine's betrayal of Dooku was awesome.

What I didn't like - Again Natalie was terrible and it wasn't just dialogue problems, I just got a sense that at the time she regretted taking on this character because she was a bit of a classics snob. Hayden really struggled except on the physical side where he showed a lot of power and a lot of Vader mannerisms. I think that the reason for Anakins' fall was rushed, but that goes back through the whole movie line. Only the Sith deal in absolutes - Really Obi you sound absolutely sure about that line.

What I would have changed. While there would have been an element of the fear of the loss of his wife as a reason for his turn. I would have at some point in this movie have Obi-Wan accidentally do something that rips their friend ship apart. Or, I would have had Anakin make his choice of falling to be clearly about gaining power so he's never a slave again only to in the final bitter irony become enslaved to his fate as a servant of Palpatine.

I wold have made the Jedi a lot more ineffective so that Anakin realizes that he needs to bring peace to the galaxy and that's part of his fall.

More dialogue when Anakin became Vader, when he was killing the Separatists, give him snark. In the book they had some great dialogue.

One of the separatists when cornered begs for his life and says "Please , Lord Sidious promised that we'd be left in peace." And Anakin laughs in his face and says "The communication was garbled, he promised that you'd be left in pieces"

And another one begging for her life says "But we were promised a handsome reward" and Anakin says before beheading her "Don't you find me handsome". It was so Vaderesque and well done as well as the dialogue between Anakin and Obi-Wan where Anakin was basically giving Obi-Wan a chance to disappear because he wasn't needed anymore.

The death of the broken heart thing was really dumb to me, they could have really pushed the Vader consuming Anakin by having him slam her into the ground indifferently when he see's Obi-Wan, and he doesn't fight him because of jealousy. He fights him because he feels betrayed by him and the jedi and its been building.

Oh and the NOOOO Scene would be changed. I'd find a way to show regret, and then show Anakin accepting his fate as a slave to Palpatine and kneeling in front of his master.

Oh and as a link to the OT and its a small detail. But at the death star they're not in a Jedi Cruiser but a brand new Imperial Star Destroyer.
