Right now its hard to evaluate any GM properly since nobody in the league is willing to make any moves. While I don't know how to look it up, but surely this year must have broken the record of fewest NHL trades in modern NHL history. So what can Treliving really do, now that free agency is over? He can fire/hire coaches, shuffle about 35 contracts within the organization, and claim any waivers or sign any unqualified free agents. IMO, Treliving has 5 important dates where he shows what he can do this year:

1) Trade Deadline
2) College Free Agency
3) Expansion draft
4) Entry Draft
5) Free Agency

I think by July 10th the Flames organization will be able to tell if Treliving is right for the job. Until then, it's impossible to determine if he's capable of addressing the current issues.
