Matthews is a franchise changer because Toronto is a garbage franchise. That's not saying he isn't good, but perspective is required.
Auston Matthews is already at 19 a top 10 NHL player. In fact, Pierre mcguire, who knocks the Leafs all the time said on the radio he was top 3.

Matthews is a franchise changer on every rebuilding franchise, not just Toronto. He's a much more important player than Patrick Laine. Feels like you're underrating him. Panarin arrived in the NHL in his mid 20's and got top line minutes with superstars to pad his production. Just not the same type of player.

Matthews is doing this with some mediocre talent on his line, and still isn't getting that much ice-time considering. His advanced stats are top-notch. He is a true 200 ft star in his rookie year.
