I think that'd be fine for them.
Who do they need to protect up front as-is? Mackinnon, Landeskog, Duchene...and...? Grigorenko?
...seriously, their roster is bloody awful. This shouldn't be a soft reboot, it should be a rebuild. Keep Mackinnon, trade everything else of value for futures and high quality prospects. The Avs are nowhere near being a good team.
This team went from having a promising group of Duchene, Mackinnon, Landeskog, O'Reilly and Stastny to absolute rubbish by losing Stastny for nothing and making an awful O'Reilly trade.
They also ruin relationships with players by refusing to pay them on their 2nd contract. O'Reilly, Duchene and Stastny all had their relationships strained/ruined by a terrible team policy, that they luckily didn't try and force upon Mackinnon - and the Barrie extension didn't go smoothly either.
