I could see Kane in a Flames jersey, especially because the acquisition price would probably be fair. It wouldn't be cheap, but it wouldn't be a high price.

When you don't have utterly elite talent (McDavid/Crosby), the best way to win in this league is to be able to roll 4 lines.

This wouldn't make a lot of sense unless it happened in post-expansion draft, as acquiring Kane would force us to expose one of Brouwer (unlikely) or Ferland (would be poor asset management).

Being able to roll 4 lines like this though:

Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Kane - Monahan - Brouwer
Gaudreau - Bennett - ?
Ferland - Stajan - Hathaway

would be a pretty fantastic set up front. Signing Bennett to a good 3 year bridge deal would be pretty crucial to the cap management though, as it would then align with Frolik/Brouwer's deals expiring.
