Neckguards and visors in the NHL is kind of a wierd topic in general.

Wearing a neckguard now is basically akin to wearing a thin turtle-neck. All players have Under Armour on anyways, just put a neck guard in. Anyone who claims it would hinder them in any way shape or form is lying.

Players not wearing visors are idiots. Pure and simple. There is a hard rubber disk flying around at 100 mph. People with blades on their feet. Every player carries a carbon-fibre spear. And each opponent is allowed to willfully run you over if you have possession of the disk. The s*** is dangerous.

The whole NHL helmet/face situation is a joke. It's astonishing they haven't gone to something similar to lacrosse or even football. Neither of those sports has the same potential for eye/face injuries. All this evffort into helmet design and nothing holding it in place on the chin but a measely strap that hasn't changed in 100 years. Nothing protecting the face, and at best, a half shield that can protect your eyes from anything coming straight at your face. Any angle and you're still boned. I'm sure Oakley or someone can put together a decent full face shield that doesn't fog and give full view.

The "old guard" played that way because that's what was available. As new things became available, the pro players adapted (goalie masks, helmets, composite sticks, revolutions in pretty much every other area of equipment), but for some reason when it came to the most vital and most vulnerable areas (head and neck) the NHL decided NOPE! Too cool to protect my brain and vision, guys. Can't you see how tough I am? Anyone who thinks it's something pansy needs to check their own masculinity.
