In most of the clips you can see the play continue while the player who got rocked lays on the ice, not the instant line-brawl you see today.
Also, I watched hockey back then. Big open-ice hits were common. Play carried on. Maybe at the next stoppage there would be some pushing and beaking off. Not showing that a clean hit affected you or your team was part of the ethos of the game.
Dirty hits were another matter entirely. But in today's NHL, the players don't seem to distinguish between the two.
