I agree with you on the causes that it wasn't Russian hacking it was that when two historically disliked candidates run one of them has to win and the winner will be who the people who dislike both vote for.
My point I guess is that Russian influencing elections isn't a new thing. The publics reaction to it changed. In my opinion its due to sports team politics.

So true. Sports team politics is too prevalent. There are far far too many people that can't seem to sacrifice cheering for their 'team' and start working together. Unfortunately, with the internet, it will continue to be the case.
