From an occupational standpoint, it really shouldn't matter. A cigarette smoking doc suffering from chronic pie overdose has no bearing on the patients state of health, nor does it make them incompetent. If their job was to be judgmental I guess it would be relevant, but their expected role is to objectively pass on the facts/diagnosis and recommend treatment based on the evidence.

To undermine a doctors advice because they aren't personally following it is straw man logic.


As an an aside I don't know of single physician who smokes. Interestingly I do know a Neurosurgeon who is an avid motorcycle rider, or as he calls it a "donor-cycle".
