The NHL went completely out of its way to try and rescue the Oilers from themselves by giving them one of the easiest schedules of any team in the league.

You have to wonder if this was done to help the Oilers out in the first year of their new building. I'm not going to put my head under the sand and say the Oilers haven't improved because they have but it really helps when you are facing a lot of tired teams.
