This is a weird question. Up until modern goaltending, a 40 W season was a rarity. Only now is it common because of how many goalies are big butterflyers who play in defensive systems. Take a look at how many 40W goalies there are in the years 2000 till now, versus those before:

Only Plante, Sawchuk, Parent, Brodeur, Barrasso, Belfor, Turek, Richter, Dryden and Kolzig did it before year 2000. Look at how many active goalies are on that list. This year Brobovski has an insane 22 wins in 29 gp, and Price is at 18wins in 25gp. Plus Dubnyk and Task could pull off a 40 win season too.

In fact a lot of goalies are close to 20 wins and no team has even played 38 games yet. Even if half of those top 10 goalies play on 0.500 or better winning teams, we could have a record year of the number of 40W goalies in a single season. The best year was 1999-2000 when three goalies got 40wins (Brodeur, Turek, and Kolzig)
