I would say that RCA is what it is. The race to the bottom on set pricing has left only a few reliable manufacturers. Vendors such as RCA most likely have sold their name to a cheap Chinese company who manufacturers the same set under other names. RCA really doesn't have any meaning anymore, they most likely don't get involved past licensing their name.

So I would say buy the set if expectations on the life and reliability are low. You may hot a home run, but it may also die on you in a few years. I wouldn't shy away because of that, I had a higher end Toshiba from 2008 die in 2011. Nothing is certain these days.
I bought the 55 RCA on Black Friday and you get what you pay for. Picture is great but it does have significant light bleeding that has gotten a bit better but is still there. If you are a purist you're not going to like it. But if you just want a big tv then it's a great deal.

When I was chatting to guy at visions he said 3/4 of the RCA and their sister brand 50" plus tvs come back as returns because of the light bleeding
